Good morning! I was off the grid yesterday, so today will be day 2 and the letter H. H is for Handmade. A handmade gift is by far the most meaningful gift that you can give someone. Even if you aren’t crafty, you can still give handmade gifts. You can take a class and learn to make one yourself, ask someone to make it for you, or buy something that someone else has handmade. Yes, they cost a little more than the typical Made in China products, but the quality is so much better and you are supporting an artisan who is doing the work that they love. You are also showing the person receiving the gift that they are valued, and you’ve put thought into their gift, and didn’t just buy something to satisfy some social standard. I love handmade gifts, the giving and the receiving. I don’t always give them, but I do whenever I can. I like to give ornaments to my family every year and yesterday I was looking at them and thinking, I could make that. For some people, I couldn’t find an ornament that fit so my mind went automatically to how I could make one. I ended up putting back the few I had picked up and decided that this year I am going to make all the ornaments. It will be fun and a little challenging to come up with something unique to each personality. That is what makes handmade gifts special, the thought and effort that is put into them. Last year, I purchased some handmade ornaments. This year, I will make them myself.
These are a couple of gifts that I made, a Kindle cover and dog booties. If you want something simple, make your own gift tags! It still says that you care enough to make the gift special.
I hope you found some inspiration here and I’m going to brainstorm another list of handmade ideas for you that you can either buy already made or make yourself.
- burlap wreath
- other decorative wreath
- blankets (either tie together fleece or sewn)
- wood signs
- flower arrangement
- put together a gift basket or stuff a stocking (even if it’s with store bought items, you’ve taken the time to think it through and put it together)
- dog sweater
- frame a special picture
- custom made pens, seam rippers, wine stoppers
- granite cutting board
Well, I hope you’ve gotten some inspiration here to finish your Christmas shopping or make something special for someone.
Have a great day!
