A brief bit about my post The Chaos Within. I promised to inform everyone when I could so here is a brief synopsis before I write my real post. A few weeks ago my brother called to tell me that my dad was having surgery. My father and I haven’t really spoken in 2 years except for a few phone calls when my Grandma died a few months ago and that ended very badly. I have tried and he has failed….over and over again. My brother told me that my father was having a section of bowel removed and that it was cancerous. I felt nothing and that upset me a lot because I am not at all an unfeeling person. I was more upset that I felt nothing than that my father had colon cancer, which happens to be what my mom died of two years ago. I have since talked to some friends and relatives and worked out my feelings and am returning to my normal, happy, enthusiastic self.
I do have a couple of my mom’s recipes to post, but I haven’t gotten them scanned and written up yet. I’ve made Beef Stew and Chicken Carmen and they were both very good. I have several more chosen and ready to go so hopefully, I can get back into that soon. They will be coming soon to a computer screen near you.
I have started doing a little sewing again and can feel my enthusiasm returning! Yay! I have 2 secret quilt projects that I am working on and I have been making reversible placemats to sell at our Town Market. Since I haven’t sold even one and I can no longer split the cost of the booth with my friend, I think I’m going to start an Etsy store. That is still in the thinking about stage. I’ll post some pictures here when I get some good ones. Maybe I’ll have my daughter take some for me.
I decided that my to do pile was getting to big in my craft room and so yesterday I started crossing some items off and the pile is dwindling significantly. It was too cluttered for me to be comfortable. Everything has just been mending so far, you know, the boring stuff of sewing. I fixed 3 pairs of the hubby’s work pants which are now fit only for working in the yard. Before, with holes in all the wrong places, they were only fit for private viewing. Good thing he bought new ones for work. I also patched a rip in a brand new pair of jeans that belong to my oldest. I think he had them for a whole two weeks before he ripped them. I put a new elastic waistband in a pair of pajama pants, mended a rip in one of my blouses and hemmed a pair of my slacks also. I got all that done yesterday and went out to lunch with my husband when he got rained out of work. It was a very productive and positive day for me! Here’s a picture of a few of the items I worked on.
I only have 4 more pairs of my pants to hem (I’m short), plus a pair of hunting pants to finish (hem, button and button hole) that I started for my husband umpteen years ago and will now finish for my son. Then I can move on to the non-clothing unfinished projects. Well, some of them are clothes, but I’m making them not mending them. I have decided to work on these things only once a week so that I still have to time to work on my fun projects too. I think it’s a good plan.
Have a great day everyone!
