Have you ever had something that you love to do lose all its fun? I love sewing and quilting, but lately there is no joy in it for me. It’s more like a chore. I joined the quilt club in January and all of a sudden I had a hundred things that I had to do and I haven’t gotten to do anything that I want to do.
The club has a quilt show every two years and this is the year. Each member has to have at least two quilts to show in the show, which is fine, but I just started quilting and didn’t have two items so I had to make/finish some things. I finished my cousin David’s quilt, which was good and I made a small table topper from a block of the month on Craftsy. Here I sit with one day left to sew and the table topper is not quilted or bound yet. That’s pretty typical for me to wait till the last minute, but in this case it’s a little different. I’ll get to that in a minute. I also had to make 15 mug rugs to give away as door prizes. They are quilted but not bound and I’m having a devil of a time with the binding. I know there are several ways to make these without having to do a separate binding, but I just didn’t like any of them that I tried. If I’m going to make something, especially if it’s going to someone else, then I want it to look good. I didn’t feel that mug rugs were up to my standards. Perhaps my standards are too high in this case, but I can’t help it. Now, I’m afraid that they’ll be even worse because I’m rushing. I may just have to make time to partially sew them on by hand. We’ll see.
I have been trying to practice free motion quilting, but my machine is not cooperating. I really want my table topper to look nice and I have a plan for the quilting, but it’s free motion, hence my dilemma. Do I just quilt it any old way and have it done or do I keep trying to free motion and have it unfinished for the show? If I had other things to show this wouldn’t be such a problem.
Do you see my issue? I love to sew, but lately, it’s just sucking the life out of me. I have a bunch of really cute and fun non-quilting projects that I want to make and sell at my town’s Summer Market, but I haven’t even started because of this quilt show.
I’m feeling very frustrated and frazzled and my anxiety is building because only one thing is done. I have 3 of 15 mug rugs done, but they aren’t great.
I’ll get the mug rugs done and suck it up that they aren’t great, but the table topper may be a problem. I almost forgot, I also have a club vest to finish quilting and binding to wear at the quilt show. AAAAAHHHHH!!!!! Wish me luck.
See ya after the show.
