Just a quick update on the greenhouse. I won’t be able to use my greenhouse for starting my seeds this spring. I did receive my second greenhouse last week and my wonderful husband and son cleared some snow and started to set it up yesterday. Unfortunately, the instructions say to bury the base. Well, our ground is still frozen so that’s not happening just yet. The good man decided that he would just set the whole thing up above ground and bury it when the ground thaws, but he decided that the base was too flimsy to hold the rest of it up without being buried and he didn’t want to risk it collapsing and shattering itself and my heart along with it. sigh………. Now I have to figure out a way to start my seeds inside which I have never done because my house is about the size of a pea and I just don’t have room. Additionally, the one big window that I have is on the north side of my house and doesn’t really get satisfactory sunlight. This ought to be interesting. I’ll probably be getting my first harvest in October! I am keeping my chin up and hoping for the best though.
I have been keeping busy with many sewing endeavors! My most recent upcycling project is a handy beach bag or it could be used for a travel laundry bag!
It was so simple to make and only took about 15 minutes from start to finish. I used an old beach towel and folded it in half, right sides together. I sewed up the sides and left enough room at the top to fold over the ends and make a casing. I then strung an old sweatshirt string through the casing and tied the ends. Voila! and it was free! It turned out a bit larger than I thought it would, but it will hold everything you need for the beach (except a cooler), and it could hold a few days of laundry if we were to go, say, on a weekend trip…to a castle in Michigan…to tour the gardens…and attend a textile/craft show! Sounds like the best weekend ever to me!
I’ve already told him that we are doing this for our anniversary in July! Actually, I told him that his mom and I were doing this and he invited himself and my father-in-law along. It just happens to fall near our anniversary, so it’s added incentive. They won’t have nearly as much fun as we do, but I’m sure just seeing us happy (um, giddy probably) will be all they need to make it worthwhile for them.
Happy Sewing! and wish me luck with my seed!
