I have 4 valentines today, well everyday really. My wonderful husband of 20 years, my 19 year old son, my 17 year old son and my 13 year old daughter. I love them everyday, but today is special. It’s a day to show our love in a special way. Some people buy cards (my husband gave me a beautiful one this morning), some people make cards (me), some people give roses or candy, and some go out to dinner. There are as many different ways to show love as there are people in the world and probably a few more.
I made cards for each person in my family and I will give them to them when they get home from school today. I am also going to show them that I love them in another way. I am going to change the sheets on their beds and clean their bathroom for them. Don’t laugh! This is not normally my job, but they really don’t do a very good job of it themselves so I am going to do it for them today. *Side Note: I bet the upstairs smells a lot better when I’m done.* For my husband, I am going to dust. I said don’t laugh! He is severely allergic to dust and I hate to dust along with the aforementioned chores and washing the dishes. These are usually assigned to other members of the family, but today I’m assigning them to me. I would take a picture of the thick layer of dust coating my furniture, but that would just be too embarrassing.
I have another valentine too, my other bridegroom. If you know who I mean then high five to you. If you don’t, see if you can figure it out. First clue: I am not a bigamist. I married someone who I have never seen, although He is everywhere I go. I don’t know what to give Him today. How do I show Him how much I love Him? He has given me the world and I so often feel like I have nothing to give in return. I could give Him a card, but would the words be adequate? I could give Him a flower, but would it be the most beautiful one in the world…like Him? I could write a poem or shout it from the mountaintops. I could design a beautiful garden or a towering skyscraper, but would it be enough? He is very demanding and inflexible, but also very forgiving and merciful. He has it all, so what more could he possibly want? Me, my life, my soul. That’s all he asks for. Sheesh, sounds a little greedy to me, but I love Him so I will do my best, today and everyday. He gave me the tools, all I have to do is use them.
He is in every person I see so, today, the world is my valentine. I wonder if any of us has the nerve to tell a complete stranger “I love you.” Could you?
Give someone a hug today, even if it’s yourself.
