This epic fail was supposed to be a birthday cake for one of my kids. I have no idea what happened to cause this train wreck, but there it is in all it’s ugly glory. It was really ugly to look at and kind of depressing and embarrassing on my part because I obviously screwed up, right? Well, let me just tell you that it tasted delicious! That’s right, we ate it in all its outward ugliness and savored the inner yumminess!
Today, it reminds me of God working in our lives. For all of our outward flaws and mistakes and bad habits, our life can sometimes look like this cake, but God sees what’s inside of us and wants us to let it out…set it free! If we had only looked at this cake and never tasted it, we would never know how good it really was. It’s the same with life. If we are afraid to dip our fingers in and dig through that top layer, all the hard work and road blocks and negativity, then we will never get to taste the rewards of pushing all the ugliness aside, shoving it out of the way, trudging through the middle of it. The reward is the yummy goodness inside or the successes we gain through our efforts. God knows what is inside of us because it is Him and He wants us to let it out and show Him to the world.
So, today, as I embark on my adventures in parenting, I will remember that I have to just dig through the ugliness to get to the goodness underneath. My ugliness today is dealing with my son losing his job, actually it’s not too hard to see the bright side of that one, he hated that job, but he does need to get another one….soon, and talking to my daughter’s math teacher about her “F”. She is in all honors classes and has straight As, except in math. I don’t understand it and I hope that it can be cleared up and resolved quickly. And I’m getting a migraine…..ugh! I wish God would just say, “Hey, this is a rough one, why don’t you just go back to bed and I’ll take care of it.” I know he’ll take care of it, but I still have to do the work.
This is the train wreck of my life, not really so bad all in all, and I’m off to go dig through the rubble to see what is salvageable! Hopefully my head is when I’m done.
